2D MMORPG

News

The following is the latest happenings regarding the MMORPG. To learn what the MMORPG actually is, see the About page.

12.03.05 - Windows port released!

The Windows port had been delayed a day because I couldn't find my Visual C++ 6 CD. Now that I've found it, the port was completed and packaged in almost no time. See the download page for the link to the zip. Unzip, edit the client.cfg file in Notepad, and then run. Keyboard controls are WASD movement and T to talk. Server should be up. I will soon begin porting the server to OpenBSD and running it 24/7. More virtual real estate to be designed soon.

Update: Added new basement map. Download the new release for your platform. Go downstairs in the inn. (You might need to move closer to the left and upwards towards the stairs in the inn to go down them.)

12.01.05 - Windows port nearing completion.

I have almost finished my Windows port. I just need to fix one last bug with OpenGL font rendering, and I will be good to go. Expect Windows binaries to be up tomorrow evening.

11.26.05 - UDP, 24/7 Server, DS Port in Progress.

It really has been a while since I've touched this project, but a few people from #dsdev and I tried out the pre-beta version for the first time in many months. It has inspired me to continue working on this project by adding UDP and character-character collision testing. I will be setting up a permanent server with logging capabilities for the MMORPG shortly.

Furthermore, a port for the popular Nintendo DS handheld gaming system is planned. The issue though is that sgstair, the reverse engineer of the DS's wifi capabilities, hasn't posted progress for over 2 weeks. He's been 90% done for a while but hasn't been able to commit himself to complete the remaining 10%.

In other news, there will be a Windows port to accompany the rest.

3.07.05 - Mac OS X port.

Thanks to Roboguy from the NeHe forums, we now have a working Mac OS X port of the latest source tree. Being that I am a supporter of non-Microsoft systems, I can only welcome this addition to the site.

3.06.05 - Going on to beta.

The beta version is almost on its way now that multiple arbitrary maps work. UDP support is planned for this release, along with character-character collision detection and a code cleanup (using classes instead). Check out the new screenshots! The updated source tree contains a taste of what's to come along with the release of the server sources.

3.05.05 - No more segfault.

A segmentation fault with the clients vector that had been inhibiting further development of the MMORPG has been debugged and fixed. Now development will continue full sail ahead!

2.24.05 - Alpha source tree updated.

The alpha source tree has been cleaned up and now has such things as packet stuffing, improved dead reckoning, a configuration file, arbitrary characters with a revamped animation system, chip set support, and a home-made string tokenizer! Be sure to download the new code. Also, read the updated documentation.

2.21.05 - Site launched.

The site is now online along with an alpha source tree!
